Hey, I'm Brian Steele

An experienced writer and producer with decades of work under my belt.

Name a medium. I've written for it: live streams, feature films, television, theater, podcasts, digital shorts, copywriting, advertising, trivia, and print.

Lionsgate is currently producing my original horror screenplay Breeders, based on an idea developed with Oscar winner Adam McKay. Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon, Ready Player One) is attached to star. I’m also developing additional features with McKay and other producers.

In podcasting, I’ve written and produced multiple award-winning series that combine deep research with immersive storytelling. Most recently, I developed a new season of The Master Plan with The Lever, digging into climate disinformation and political betrayal. Before that, I wrote and produced Death at the Wing and Death on the Lot with McKay and Hyperobject Industries for Sony Music. Death on the Lot won a Gold Signal Award for Best History Podcast. Death at the Wing was nominated for Best Script Writing (Nonfiction) at the Ambie Awards and praised by outlets like The New York Times, The Guardian, TIME, and Vulture.

As a director and comedy writer, I’ve created original content for Funny or Die, My Damn Channel, FremantleMedia, and BunnyEars.com. I’ve collaborated with talent like Nick Kroll (Kroll Show, Big Mouth), Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, Heroes), Beth Behrs (2 Broke Girls), and Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend). Vulture once called me a web comedy stalwart.

My independent pilot Small Town News won the Audience Award at 2008 ITVFest. My work has earned millions of views online, including the viral hits Hostage and What Your Political Bubble Looks Like From the Other Side.

I’ve written editorial and branded content for Netflix, IFC, Showtime, Grunge, Splitsider, and more. I’ve also worked on campaigns for Universal, AMC, and Disney. I spent years as a trivia writer and story analyst, most notably at Alcon Entertainment, where I reviewed thousands of scripts and learned what makes a story stick.

I got my start onstage with NYC sketch group Moustache McFadden. We wrote fast, broke the fourth wall, and built shows that taught me how to chase a laugh and a deadline.

If it can be written, I can write it.
